1. How is this book different than most books on prayer?
Most books on prayer are about the theory of prayer. This book is different because
you use it as you pray!
2. How do I use this book in prayer?
The book is arranged in four sections—Praise,
Confession of sin, Praying for believers and Praying for the lost. Each
of these has a number of sub-sections for a total of twenty-seven.
When you pick up the book to have a session of prayer, just turn to the first
page of the Praise section and start to read the first verse/prayer set as
a prayer to God. You will be hearing from God through His words, then responding
in prayer back to Him.
Let these verse/prayers be a springboard for your own prayers! Take just one
verse/prayer set from each subsection when you use the book to pray, marking
where you end with a post it note on the side of the page. This way you’ll
find your place the next time you come to prayer. Go through all twenty-seven
subsections each time you pray.
3. How long will it take me to use the book in this way?
It takes only 15-20 minutes to use the book for
a session of prayer! Yet you will have praised God, confessed your sins
and interceded for other’s
sins, prayed for believers and for yourself, and prayed for the lost. The
book ends with maps of all the nations of the world. If you take one map
per day, you will be able to pray for all the nations of the world in one
week!
4. The title says that with this book I can “advance Christ’s
Kingdom”. What does this mean?
Remember the Lord’s prayer? The first thing
Jesus tells us to ask for is His Kingdom: “thy Kingdom come, thy
will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matt.
6:10) Christ’s Kingdom exists wherever His will is done! Jesus Christ came
to establish a Kingdom on earth of those people who by His grace would desire
and be able to obey His commands. His Kingdom exists in us individually when
we trust in Him as Savior and Lord and begin to walk with Him in an obedience
that is the fruit of faith and love, and in the Church as a whole as we walk
together in that same faithful and loving obedience.
When we make His Kingdom the purpose of our lives and live to please Him, the
Scripture promises us that we can ask God in prayer to accomplish His Kingdom
purposes and He will do it!
a. He will hear you, and you will receive what you ask, when you ask anything
according to His will. (1 John 5:14-15)
b. You will receive anything you ask for if you obey His commands and do what
pleases Him (1Jn 3:21-22)Through prayer, therefore, the righteous Christian is
able to partner with God in advancing His Kingdom.
5. The word “obedience” makes
me think of legalism. How is this different than being under the principle
of the law?
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command…Whoever
has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me…If anyone
loves me, he will obey my teaching…” (John 14:15, 21, 23) The
gift of saving faith, of salvation, changes our hearts so that we love God
and through the gift of the Holy Spirit we are enabled to live a life of love
for God that results in obedience to His commands. In fact, it is only those
who live according to the Spirit who are able to fully meet the righteous requirements
of the law. (Rom. 8:4)
Prayer, therefore, is essential to receiving the life of Christ through the
ministry of the Holy Spirit! Through prayer, we ask God to enable us to be
filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can live a life of loving obedience
to Jesus Christ.
6. How will using this book change the way I pray?
Most of us come to prayer when we are burdened for ourselves. This book causes
you to forget about yourself, to turn to God, to magnify Him, and to pray
for His plans, purposes, and will.
It is a vehicle for you to obey Christ’s command to “seek first
His Kingdom and His righteousness” (Matt. 6:33). It is a means of grace
whereby you will center your prayers on the purpose of your life: to fulfill
the Great Commission by partnering with God in bringing about an obedience
of faith to all those who love God and are called according to His purposes.
(Matt. 28:18-20)
7. This sounds like THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE by
Rick Warren which so many churches are using to promote true discipleship.
It
is for prayer what Rick’s book is for discipleship! This book will enable
you develop a “purpose-driven” prayer life whereby you learn to pray
systematically and comprehensively for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
The focus of your prayers will shift from yourself to God, from your needs
to His will, from your glory to His glory, from the narrow circle of your
family and friends to His Church and the world He wants to impact with the
gospel. This book will take your prayers from paltry to panoramic!
8. How will praying the Scriptures affect my life?
The Word of God: sets us apart from sin (John 17:17),
is living and active, penetrates to dividing the soul and the spirit,
and judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Heb. 4:12), is God-breathed
and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
(2 Tim. 3:16), will never pass away (Matt. 24:35), never returns empty
(Isa. 55:11), and is authored by the Holy Spirit (2 Pe.1:21).
In addition, the Scriptures reveal to us the God to whom we are praying and
how He inspires and answers prayer as well as His will, purposes, and plans
and how prayer accomplishes both.
The Scriptures also reveal God’s commands, conditions, and promises concerning
prayer. John 15:7 specifically connects Christ’s words remaining in us
with answered prayer. And Romans 10:17 tells us that the very faith that is
necessary for answered prayer comes from the Word!
As mentioned above, the Word of God sanctifies us—sets us apart from
sin—so that we are enabled to meet yet another condition of answered
prayer, righteousness (John 9:34).
Finally, the Word of God is the weapon by which we fight the forces of darkness
who are our real enemy (Eph. 6:17).
9. How else will using this book affect my life?
You will be brought closer to the Lord Jesus Christ as your mind is renewed
through Scriptural prayers by His Word and as you become His prayer partner
in praying for the Church and for the lost. Your guilt, due to lack of prayer,
will end as you accept God’s invitation, given to each and every Christian,
to join with Him in obeying His commands, claiming His promises and meeting
His conditions for answered prayer.
You will develop confidence in prayer and your faith will grow as your prayers
are answered. You will be enabled to pray faithfully for yourself, your loved
ones, other believers, your church, the lost, our nation, and all the nations
of the world. You will discover that, although you may never become a missionary
to another nation, that you are a missionary in prayer for the whole world.
10. How could using this book affect the moment I stand before the Lord
when He will reward me for what I did during my life?
There is no greater ministry than prayer! There is no greater means than prayer
to impact this world for Christ! You may speak to a thousand people in your
lifetime but you can pray for millions.
Don't you want to stand before our precious Lord one day and hear Him say, “Turn
around. See what your prayers accomplished! Well done my good and faithful
servant!” And behind you will be thousands and thousands of people,
perhaps millions, out of every tribe, language, people, and nation, who are
in the Kingdom of God because you prayed!
